April 3 - 6 - Spring Break Student Writing Camp. Instructor Janet Hurley facilitates this hands-on exploratory workshop for aspiring young writers. More information at www.true-ink.com.

"Pickin' on the Porch" 2012 Season (June - August)
Enjoy great musical performances on the front porch of the historic Old Kentucky Home. Presented on the first Friday of each month of June - August on the front porch of the historic "Old Kentucky Home." FREE!

June 1 - Tom Fisch. Noon to 2 pm.

July 6 - Carol Rifkin and Pauls Creek Band. Noon to 2 pm.

August 3 - Buddy Davis Trio. Noon to 2 pm.

June 9 - Cultivating the Past: An Introduction to Heirloom Gardening
Join the Thomas Wolfe Memorial's volunteer Master Gardeners as they lead us on an exploration of planting and caring for an early 20th century perennial flower garden. Free.

July 14 - Barbershop Chorus and Ice Cream Social
Come and hear the music of the early 1900's as the Land of the Sky Barbershop Chorus presents a rousing rendition of songs both sweet and sentimental. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an afternoon of this unique genre of American music. Free.

August 11 - Chair Caning - An Introductory Workshop
Join traditional wood working craftsman, David Ammons, as he demonstrates the nearly lost art of chair caning. Participants should bring an old chair needing a new seat to this hands-on workshop. Participation is limited. A fee is charged to cover the cost of materials.

October 27 - Behind the Stones: A Tour of Historic Riverside Cemetery
Enjoy this leisurely stroll through Asheville's historic cemetery. Learn the stories behind the ordinary and not so ordinary individuals who would help to shape Asheville's past and future. 2 & 4 p.m. November - "The Child By Tiger" A symposium on Thomas Wolfe's powerful 1937 short story of racial opression and murder.

December 22 - Christmas on the Mountain: An Evening with Sheila Kay Adams
Two performances at 6 pm and 7:30 pm. $10 General Admission. Seating is limited.
